Azul: Summer Pavilion

Azul: Summer Pavilion! A great twist to the original tile-laying-set-collecting-pattern-building game.

OVERVIEW 👀
in Azul Summer Pavilion players take tiles similar to the original Azul: all tiles of the same color, pushing the rest into the middle. But in Summer Pavilion players may also take one “wild” tile, as designated by the round, if it’s available. Once all players have exhausted the supply, each player places the tiles on their mats and scores for each tile laid.

MY THOUGHTS 💭
What I really like in Summer Pavilion over the original is that you collect all your tiles before placing them, so you can adapt your strategy as the round goes on and maximize the number of points based on the number of tiles you actually collected that round. I like that there are designated “wild” colors each round and that you can set aside up to four tiles for subsequent rounds.

RECOMMEND?
YES... Summer Pavilion is easily my favorite version of Azul. One physical improvement is they moved the scoring to one mat, not each player tracking their own. BUT... the scoring mat is flimsy and markers can still easily be bumped. Also the scoring markers are muted colors that is very difficult for someone who is colorblind (like me) to see the difference. Often people that aren’t colorblind end up moving the wrong marker. OVERALL the game is excellent, just the scoring can be frustrating.
