River Dragons

River Dragons has a very unique mechanic that makes the game a challenge.

OVERVIEW 👀
in River Dragons, each player tries to get their adorable meeple from one side of the board to their home side. To get there, sturdy stone foundations must be placed, then wooden planks laid on top. Once a path has begun players can start to move across but they must be careful not to get blocked by other players’ meeples or they will get knocked into the river! Players also have to watch out for the river dragon that will prevent a turn!

MY THOUGHTS 💭
What I really like about this game is that each player must choose 5 actions from an available 9-14. All players choose these actions BEFORE the round begins. Then all players flip over their first chosen action card and take the action starting with the first player. This is a pretty rare game mechanism that brings a unique challenge to the game. The third action you chose, for example, may no longer be possible based on other players’ first two actions. Also, each player has a river dragon with your color on it! If your river dragon is displayed, you don’t get to take an action that turn!

RECOMMEND?
I think this game plays best with 4-6 players, so if you have that size of group available, then YES! It’s not a great two-player game. I have five children, so I’m always looking for 6+ player games! The whole family enjoys this game!
